Want to try higher dose, but scared to try it
Post Body

I’ve been taking micronized Vanuatu Borongoru from Kalm With Kava off and on since about January. I don’t take it all the time. Sometimes I take it every day for a week. Sometimes I will take it a couple times a week, and other times I will go weeks or months without taking any. This isn’t the first time I’ve tried a type of kava. Before ordering from KWK I had tried a couple of different kava pills/tablets, which had no effect. Then I did some research and realized that those cheap pills usually don’t work for anyone, and so I finally ordered the real stuff (my Vanuatu Borongoru) for the first time. I take a tablespoon of the powder just like the directions on the container say.

However, I have never noticed any effects at all after taking kava. It does absolutely nothing. I’ve noticed by scrolling around on this site that a lot of people take doses much bigger than my little 1 tablespoon dose. Seems like a lot of people will start will start with a spoonful or two, then have some more a short while later, then maybe even more a little while after that. Is it not working for me because I’m not taking enough? I would really like to try the method of taking a few doses spaced a little while apart, but I’m scared to take too much. Here’s why:

When I first got my Vanuatu Borongoru, I tried a tablespoon the first day. It did nothing. The next day I did the same and it also did nothing. So on the third day, thinking maybe I wasn’t taking enough, I tried two big, heaping tablespoons instead. I ended up stuck on the couch for the rest of the night, dizzy and nauseous and unable to eat dinner. But really? Two tablespoons? From what I’ve read on this site, two tablespoons seems to be a very small dose. I’ve heard of people taking as much as 3/4 cup at a time. I’m wondering now if I imagined the dizziness and nausea. I do have a fear or trying new supplements/medicines because I’m afraid of getting side effects or a bad reaction. I didn’t take aspirin for years because I was scared I would have an allergic reaction.

So what do you think? Is it safe to try taking a few doses spaced a little while apart instead of just one, or do you think a higher dose will make me sick like that one time? Am I just not taking enough right now? Keep in mind that I’m very small. I’m 4’11 and weigh 95 lbs, and still wear some clothes that I wore in the fifth grade 12 years ago. I would really, really like kava to work for me because I want to use it as an alternative to xanax and as a sleeping aid. I have horrible insomnia.
