Chilled or room temperature?

How do you take your kava? First two times I made it with tap water normal temp and was able to down the 8 oz or so just fine. Last two times I prepared with hot tap water and chilled it before drinking. I felt like gagging both times and it was really hard to finish it. Anyone else prefer room temperature?
