Got my first functional sword- an unfortunately slightly bent and twisted o-katana from Ronin’s scratch & dent sale. Once I figured out they didn’t want it back I bent it straight but heat treated mono steel is stubborn. The spine is straight but the edge wanders over toward the tip. Too bad because it’s really beautiful.
I know how to safely draw and return the sword to the saya, and to drive with my left and steer with my right but I’m not planning to gain any significant skill. I did figure out that cutting pool noodles and water bottles in the back yard is super fun. This #31 musashi model is forward heavy and a little heavy in general. I’m officially addicted and already ordered a lighter (& shorter) functional sword from Kult of Athena to mess with. It’s their store brand- Iron Tiger Forge Mitsudomoe 10 Differentially Hardened.
I said I’m not serious about martial arts- just your average fat nerd in the back yard 😂 but I already see the skill involved in recovering for a second cut, and the specific muscles needed are different than those I usually use or train. So much fun playing with a 3 foot long razor blade
