Every time I look at Kanye's discography it always bothers me that College Dropout was the only Kanye solo album to not reach #1 on the albums chart in the US. I also see stats out there about how many consecutive #1s an artist has or how many consecutive #1s an artist has to start their career (e.g. DMX is one of the very few artists that started his career with 4 or more #1 albums).
So if all the Kanye stans organized to buy College Dropout the same week, do you think it's possible to get College Dropout to #1? I was thinking about the easiest path to accomplish this and it's probably itunes album sales. I believe the current equation is 1500 streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale. So streams would be very difficult to achieve, but I think this conversion means purchasing the College Dropout digitally would count as 2.1 album sales. Feel free to correct me if this is wrong.
Additional things to consider:
-Anyone who can't afford it could contribute by streaming the album that week
-At first I thought people who already own the digital album could buy the vinyl or CD, but those sales may have already been counted when the retailer purchased them from the supplier. I'm not sure about this. Does anyone know when physical sales are counted? Digital album sales on itunes seems like the most obvious way to make sure a sale counts for that specific week.
- I don't have the US charts in front of me but most weeks I think 100,000 in sales would win, which is tough to reach, but if we planned it out for a week that had no major releases then maybe a number as low as 50,000 could win.
Anyways, what do you guys think? Could this be organized? Am I a complete loser? Do I need to get a life?
