Hello redditers,
I have downloaded kali to a bootable usb about a month ago. I am trying to learn how to crack (not change the password) or show the password of a windows 10 user. Ive noticed kali has many tools, such as John the ripper, Ophcrack, samdump2, mimikatz, etc. Ive noticed some of these only suppourt windows vista, NT, XP and none that im aware of suppourt windows 10. Heres the issue i am facing. I have booted two machines i am trying to crack the password two, both are local users. I mount the volume to kali and i have access to the SAM and SYSTEM files. But i do not know how to extract the hashes and then crack them. I have tried samdump2 -o SAM >hashes.txt but no hashes get transfered and it doesnt work. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge with cracking passwords? i dont want to change them i want to see what the old passwords are. Any info would be greatly appreciated. If you have done this before and can provide a Step by step overview of how to do it please comment or message me -thanks -guyfromqueens
