Calling Kris Jenner ‘Kris Jong-Un’ undermines the crimes against humanity committed by Kim Jong-Un and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (the DPRK).
While Kris Jenner has been exploitative in the marketing of her family, and in particular her daughters, it is in no way comparable or equatable to the atrocities done to the victims in North Korea.
By use of the nickname ‘Kris Jong-Un’, we are doing a vast dishonour to the current, past and future victims of the DPRK.
It creates a false ideology where salacious marketing acts that lead to familial fortune are roughly equivalent to being a dictator, and thusly, minimizes the horrors sanctioned by Kim Jong-Un, the current ruler of North Korea.
Furthermore, by using the name of a dictator in a joke, we are suggesting that the idea of a punchline is more important than actually holding said dictator accountable to his actions.
The information shared beyond this is sourced from the Inquiry into Human Rights Violations in North Korea 2014-2020.
In North Korea, the fundamental rights of the following groups have been stripped away and resulted in widespread torture through physical, emotional, political, sexual and violent abuses.
- Inmates of political prison camps
- Inmates of the ordinary prison system, including political prisoners
- Religious believers, and others considered to introduce ‘subversive influence’
- Persons who try to flee the country
- Persons from other countries who became victims of international abductions and forced disappearances
- Starvation
In the case of the below listed groups, the tortures reach the threshold for genocide;
- Christians;
- half-Chinese children
- the ‘hostile’ group.
These victims have no say in their lives.
Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner on the other hand, do.
And while the Kar-Jenner’s are guilty of exploiting themselves and to a degree, their children, there is a vast world of difference between being the child of a rich and bad parent, and being the victim of a dictator that has enslaved and tortured millions.
I would encourage you to do your own research in to the DPRK, and reflect on the integrity of a trendy nickname before using it.
