Bass playing on Changes

Ok, so liner notes show that Stu plays bass guitar on all songs except for Gondii and Cook plays bass guitar on Exploding Suns (as well as Stu), but I have two questions.
No Bass on Gondii? (ok I guess it's all synths)
I distinctively hear upright bass (not bass guitar) on Change and Short Change. Do you think they are using an effect, or they just decided to not label it as such?
