SRX / Space Security Director Rule Automation

I am investigating automation options for a new SRX deployment which will be managed by Space with Security Director. I am looking for any automation options for creation and deletion of rules.

It seems that Space & Security Director have APIs, so I could probably look to roll our own tooling, as I think that if we configure the firewalls OOB of Space it will always have a config out of sync type message from my limited playing so far.

What is anyone else doing for any kind of configuration/rule automation?
