Inclination to Darker Aspects

I have noticed that I am quite inclined to darker aspects of human nature. For example, I love to study serial killers. Sometimes, I praise the mob bosses for their shrewdness and tactics. Machiavellianism in people fascinates me although I personally am quite the opposite. I believe that this fascination surpasses natural curiosity for such things. Why do I have this pull towards these things? Does my shadow covet for this?
