Emulating Someone

I have done this in one area of my life. My gut told me I need to emulate a deceased kinsman, as he was reserved like me, but his charisma grew and became a great leader. I am reminded of something a since dead relative relayed to me, but can't confirm (since they died). Stalin visited the grave of Lenin so he could be like him. Now I don't think I will visit the grave of this person, but how can we take on someone's cloak? I don't want to be fake, but something draws me to this person. Thanks.
