so i'm very aware this is a pretty common part of the process (i did mention in my email i was interested in conversion and thus wanted to observe services), but.. i'm autistic! navigating this exact kind of social situation is already 10x as difficult for me.
the email i received back was very short but polite and was tldr "well if you want to convert you should go read books or take some jewish classes", with nothing much else added. i don't believe it was the rabbi either (she has her own email listed on their website). does this mean "go find a different temple" (i'm hoping not because this one is both close to me geographically and is very explicit about being inclusive of LGBTQ people and people of color, two things i both am), or does this mean "go read more books and come back later"?
i've been told by a few people you should start your "official" class/lessons alongside a rabbi, which is really why the email sort of threw me for a loop. i don't think they offer intro to judaism classes, do you need to start those classes with the rabbi you're going to do the entire process with? should i just wait a little and ask to observe again? i know these questions get asked a lot but like i said - i'm autistic, and navigating into an entirely brand new community is a little difficult for me - but i really do want to pursue this. thank you in advance!
