I already know I'm gonna get flamed for this since I'm posting in the jjk subreddit but at this point I genuinely want to hear why jjk fans love the series so much. Personally, after catching up with the manga I would give the series a mid to strong 7/10 which is good, but it's not like amazing or anything. But as I look online and especially tiktok, I constantly see jjk praised as the best new gen of all time, and if you think differently jjk fans will always attack and argue jjk is the greatest which is odd because I feel there's way better shows. I could genuinely spend hours explaining my gripes with jjk but I'll try to condense my issues into 5 main points.

  1. The author wastes characters. None of the characters motivations are strong enough to make them stand out or give u connections to them. Genuinely don’t care about anyone because nobody gets screen time. Even nobora the main female protagonist is sidelined. This is kind of a problem more because of the series pacing but arcs move to fast to focus on specific characters. Yujis progression in Shibuya and a little of culling games was good but that's about as much character growth as we can expect to see outside of flashbacks. Characters like megumi have little character growth that's tried to squeeze into the shows fast pacing and just doesn't work imo. Characters like yuta, hakari, etc. are presented as interesting and useful, but because of their immense strength, the author constantly has to write them out of the story in order to justify the heroes struggle. The gap between power in the series is so stupid considering gojo could end every single villain at once if he wanted to do he had to be written out. Yuta yuki and hakari would have defeated every curse in Shibuya aside from sukuna so they're written out. Yukis cursed technique is broken so she's given 1 fight and then dies because kenjaku has a hard counter. Gojos cursed technique is broken so he's sealed for half the manga and then dies his next fight because sukuna can now cut through space itself. I have no doubt by the end of the series sukuna will receive this bs treatment because of how powerful he has become.
  2. The power system is wasted. Such a cool concept but is barely shown because 1. Domain expansions are broken so nobody can use them or else it’s an instant win, and if a domain is used, there’s always some special way the heroes get out of it. Also cursed techniques are born with not developed so progression is linear basically ur stuck with what ur born with u can’t train and become very strong. So characters like maki have to get bs power ups to become strong. A lot of people like makis power up and I did at first too, but Ive begun to dislike it because 1, it wasn't really hinted at earlier, and 2, it made her completely broken with almost no training. Even before her awakening against naoya, she already was soloing multiple grade 1 sorcerers at once. The author could have spent more time exploring the zenin clan and makis character and power development but he/she squeezed everything into a few chapters.
  3. The villains are pretty mid. Sukuna is the only threatening villain and maybe mahito. The other villains don’t do anything really and are treated like jokes to show protagonist progression like jogo getting dicked around and Dagon getting turned into sushi by toji. The best part of shibuya in my opinion was sukunas entrance because he was menacing unlike all other villains. Kenjaku is a really lame main protagonist because his goal is so outlandish it’s obvious it’s not gonna work and his only fight with yuki he already almost lost making him feel not as threatening. His only other fight recently was against takaba where he engaged in a fight of jokes which proves his intelligence, but didn't help the reader take him seriously at all and ended with him getting speed blitzed by yuta, once again making him feel less threatening.
  4. The protagonist has no power progression. Watching yuji fight is so boring because bro has isn't even involved in his own power system. Bro doesn’t even have a cursed technique he just punches with cursed energy. He could have had anything to help show us more of the power system and power progression but yuji gets no power development which makes his fights the most boring, imo his only good fight was vs mahito the second time because of the emotion but the actual fighting was boring because it was just punching. Even if yuji didn't have a cursed technique, just giving him a cursed tool like the soul splitting katana or something could have made him so much more interesting to watch and given him ways to get stronger. Imo gojo megumi or yuta would have been much more interesting mcs to watch because of their progression in the jujutsu power system and their unique cursed techniques.
  5. I just don’t care about most of the characters. Like in culling games I Didn’t really care about characters at all. We kept getting introduced to characters and they didn’t have much substance at all. The characters in jjk all get introduced at once and aren’t very deep or interesting so when they die I genuinely don’t care. Or I’m frustrated because they could have had potential. Nobora nanami yuki jogo mahito and kashimo had so much potential and were wasted completely. Same with megumis sister and the spirit that took her over. Even megumi had so much wasted potential but he’s technically still alive.

Overall I don't think jjk is horrible or anything, but there's so much wasted and so many gaps in the writing I can't understand why it's constantly called the best new gen. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this and see what other people would rate it. Personally my favorite new gen rn is chainsaw man and my hero academia and I think the authors of these series just does a better job at writing the stories then gege. Again I'd like to hear other people opinions, I don't expect people on this sub to agree or change their minds, but I'd like to see what arguments you guys have against what I've said or anything u think I got wrong about the series.
