I’m a producer at a local tv new station in a top 50 market. I remember my last news room director telling me, news is either for you or it isn’t. And it’s become increasingly apparent it isn’t anymore. To be frank, I want to leave and follow a new career path.
Over the past year, I’ve increasingly become more depressed while working there. I know it’s been affecting my job and performance.
Like I said earlier I want to leave, but as far as I’m aware, I can’t. I’m still under contract. I’m only about halfway through. I work for Sinclair and they are litigation happy when I comes to people leaving contract. My contract says I would have to pay a penalty, which would be thousands of dollars. It’s that part preventing me from outright quitting. I tried contacting a lawyer but they never responded. I’m thinking about having to speak with my boss about it but I’ve struggled with what I want to say. Im afraid I may end up having to have this conversation whether I’m ready or not soon.
I’m looking for any advice in what I should do. I’m not sure what I want or need to say but I need to say something. I hope I was able to explain my situation in an understandable way. Please let me know if there is anything needing to be clarified.
