My Resume

Hey Journalism people. I'm going into my senior year of university, and I'm planning to apply to all the internships this fall at the big publications. I'm gonna use it to apply to the SPJ news reporter opportunity at Media Fest this year in about, but I plan to use it a bunch this fall. Some tips on my resume would be really helpful.

Also, if you're interested in taking a look at my cover letter, go ahead and PM me.

Thank you!

First bullet point I would say get rid of paid intern (that doesn’t matter in the experience area vs internship for credit) and just call yourself “intern with the reporting team”

Third bullet point and last two bullets doesn’t need to be their own thing, just add “pitched stories weekly to the editor, worked on writing scripts with the editor, and took photos to feature on the stories I was covering for the day(specify here if the pics were on articles or packages etc)” to the fourth bullet point

You can combine bullet points 2 and 5 to just say “wrote and covered local stories about the weather, new businesses, features, community events, sports and anything the team was on top of”

Remove the AP style bullet point—this is just expected

In your education tab what does visual journalism mean? Specify broadcast, print or photojournalism

Add to the social media tab something about being able to find new news on twitter or Instagram or what not (if you have experience with it)—this is more important to news organizations… being able to find raw videos/pics/tweets that might be breaking a news story like a shooting/weather/event etc

In technology do you know how to use adobe premiere, Avid or inews? This is the most important ones to know if you’re doing broadcast journalism

Also if you have experience logging/transcribing add that somewhere cause that’s what you’ll LIKELY be doing as an intern lol Overall looks like you have some great initial experience! Good luck and hope some of this helps!
