Post Body

It has been 2 years since the reboot of the Watch This! project and I would like to use this opportunity to celebrate and highlight the best of what we have seen in the past 12 months. To those who are not familiar, WT! threads started over 4 years ago as an /r/anime specific recommendation essay format. Many WT! threads have been written since then which can all be browsed in the subreddit wiki available here. No other anime community online can boast such a rich treasure trove of recommendations written by a variety of authors all in a common format. Early on, WT! threads were organized and led by the efforts of /u/kaverik. At the beginning of 2019, kaverik handed over hosting rights to /u/RX-Nota-II who subsequently stepped down at the beginning of 2020 but not before selecting the best WT! threads of 2019. It is our intent to continue this tradition. Here are the people involved with making WT! threads a success in 2020:

Special Thanks

/u/JoseiToAoiTori: The current admin of the WT! project responsible for picking each WT! of the month. Also a judge for WT! of the year.

/u/MAD_SCIENTIST_001: The co-admin of the WT! project who organizes the wiki. Also a judge for WT! of the year.

/u/Nazenn: The artist for the WT! project who is responsible for creating the sidebar images for each WT! of the month.

/u/aboredcompscistudent: The leader of /r/anime's written projects including the Writing Club and a judge for WT! of the year.

/u/DrJWilson: The legendary KAMIMASHITA who is also a judge for WT! of the year.

/u/KiwiBennydudez: An /r/anime mod and writer who is a judge for WT! of the year.

/u/dragonsonourmountain: The dragon on the pile of treasure who has been responsible for awarding platinum/gold/silver to the winners of each month as well as posting the Anime of the Week thread which is a project closely tied to WT! threads.

/u/Gaporigo: The mod who has most often helped us implement the banners on the sub.

/u/geo1088: The former mod who was responsible for designing the monthly banner areas in the subreddit's CSS.

/u/autolovepon: /r/anime's mod-run bot account that has been our funding source to keep the monthly awards sustainable. A special thanks to /r/anime mods in general for being so closely available for promoting our project.

/u/kaverik: The OG leader whose influence we will never forget.

All our WT! writers: The incredible competition for WT! of the year wouldn't be what it is without all our writers trying their best for each thread. Your writing is what keeps the project going more than anything else.

The Best of 2020 setup

To celebrate our first anniversary, 5 of us (/u/JoseiToAoiTori, /u/mad_scientist_001, /u/aboredcompscistudent, /u/DrJWilson, /u/KiwiBennydudez) got together to discuss and vote on our favorite [WT!]s from the past year. To make things simple, only winners of the months were eligible for discussion narrowing down the choices to these 12:

Final voting was anonymous and carried out through the Condorcet Internet Voting Service's Ranked Pairs methodology. Here are the judge's picks:

2021 and beyond

2020 was a great year for the WT! project with monthly winner showcasing the passion of our writers. It is our hope that /r/anime will continue to create more interesting threads going into the new year as well and make choosing the best WT! threads of 2021 even more difficult than it was for 2020.

As always, I hope you enjoyed the WT! threads we showcased here and maybe picked up some things to add to your growing Plan to Watch. If you want help with a WT! thread you're writing or you have no idea how to write one, feel free to reach out to /u/JoseiToAoiTori or /u/MAD_SCIENTIST_001 via PM.
