The EBU's contradictory statements

The EBU contradicted itself so hard with these recent statements and it is so dishonest that I can't believe it. So manipulative. Don't they have anyone overseeing these texts and stuff?

In today's statement, they said:

"This was an investigation into whether a criminal act was committed and not whether Mr Klein behaved inappropriately and breached ESC rules and procedures. This new development therefore does not have any impact on our decision which we stand by completely."

So, Joost was DQ'd over "inappropriate behavior and breaching ESC rules, not criminal behavior". Hmmm...

In the May 11 statement, they said:

"The Dutch artist Joost Klein was disqualified from the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest following threatening behaviour directed at a female member of the production crew. Swedish police have investigated the offence, and the case will soon be handed over to the prosecutor in an accelerated procedure.

Joost’s behaviour was in clear breach of Contest rules which are designed to ensure there is a safe working environment for all staff and to protect the production. We are not pre-judging the legal process but, given the circumstances of what occurred and the fact that the police case will shortly be handed to the prosecutor, it would not have been appropriate for Joost to participate in the Grand Final."

GIVEN THAT THE POLICE CASE WILL BE HANDED TO THE PROSECUTOR, IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATE FOR HIM TO PARTICIPATE.

You clearly weaponized the fact that Joost was targeted by a bullshit legal case as an excuse to disqualify him right here but now you are trying to backtrack on this statement because his name is cleared.

WHAT WAS THIS LEGAL CASE ABOUT??? It's not like it was about Joost allegedly committing murder. They investigated whether Joost did something actually threatening and violent towards this photographer or not and their conclusion is a resounding "no". How can you still argue that his behavior was just so inappropriate that it required him being removed from the contest?

Also, because the Eurovision sub won't allow me to say this, I can't help but notice that you also stated this back in May:

"We have a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our events and will always take necessary action to address threats to staff – no matter who they come from."

Unless they are from the Israeli delegation and the targets are the performers, I guess. You know, those people who documented their own harassment of other contestants. That's not inappropriate behavior warranting a DQ, but Joost having boundaries and standing up for himself is, apparently.

This looks really bad on Eurovision's part. In the future, are they just going to be allowed to just disqualify whoever for no fucking reason and get away with it? What a shitshow. Joost didn't deserve any of this.
