I don't see gender

Me and my brother were watching Happy Death day 2 and there was a girl in the movie who looked to be either a guy or girl or maybe trans.
I made a comment about her (I forgot what I said though. was not inappropriate.) but I remember calling her or him a him or her cuz that's what got me confused and I told my brother jokingly that it doesn't matter, I don't see gender.
And he said "oh you'll see gender when a girl you date whips out her dick."
