We didn't have this same issue one hundred years ago. There were no laws stopping people from having guns then. My father-in-law (in his 80s now) carried a pistol to school from the age of 8. So why do we have the problem now? I think the issue is that people now generally care less about the lives of others, societal repercussions of using violence against innocents, and fear of consequences from the law or a diety. Those changes would be a problem in society unrelated to how many guns people can buy.
But this is a jokes forum, so I digress.
