Shalom,
Goy here, that wants to bring a food item a passover themed party this Saturday and looking for suggestions. I bold themed, because the host indicated it not in any way a religious celebration, and I've been given the indication that there aren't any kosher or dietary restrictions. Being authentic isn't as much of a priority as it being tasty and fun. Passover and or plague themed is encouraged, even if not traditionally Jewish cooking. As a first born gentile son, I'm trying to avoid the last plague and make something well received.
But I'm looking for suggestions for things to make. It will be mostly a "standup party", so preferably nothing that requires a knife and fork that can't be cut ahead of time. (Made mac and Cheese there the last time and that was fine, to give context.) I also tend to be much better at cooking that baking, but willing to give any easier baking ideas a try. I also know that the host will be making Latkes.
So looking for anything ideas the sub has that are either traditional or modern Jewish, or loosely plague themed for food or drink.
Some thoughts:
I made a Leah Koenigs brisket recipe for my quarantine pod's passover a few years back an nailed it. Could do that sliced down in to Challah sliders or maybe over some Matzoh with a beet horseradish aioli.
reuben sliders
manischewitz Jello shots
Zeroah Lamb meat balls- Since it is technically after passover, feel like actually having some meat at the end of a bone would be ok. Think I could even get some chicken wing bones to serve in the place of tooth picks.
EDIT: I now realize I misspoke(typed?) in referring to passover being over rather than this being after the seder.
Tzimmes Tzimmes, ya- Tzimmes, and IDK, somehow make it Wu-Tang themed.
"River of blood" punch- Could probably get away with any Dark red punch
"Pharaoh" salad- grain salad with Farro as the base and some other on theme ingredients (beets, pommegranite, etc.)
Any thoughts or other good ideas?
Thanks
Other people: use traditional foods like matzah!
Me: gluten free tortellini or gnocchi in tomato cream sauce for boils, punch with red wine or grape juice for blood, Black Forest cake for darkness, sugar cookies shaped like frogs, seed crackers for locusts/lice/flies (toast the seeds first and don’t forget the salt), Sephardi almond cookies like these for hail…
