This occurred to me as I was once again grappling with why this moment has been so painful. The pro-Palestine/anti-Israel crowd (most of whom knew nothing about Gaza before 10/7) think that they are the only ones who care about Palestinians, and that gives them the moral high ground. They think that they are a movement against people who don't care about Palestinian lives.
The frustrating thing is that many Jews were the ones who actually cared about Palestinians long before 10/7. For Americans like me, we learned about the history, we traveled to Israel and met Palestinians, we supported organizations that advocate for peace. Many of the Israelis killed on 10/7 were peace activists.
And yet because we also care about Israelis, somehow we are the bad guys. I am just as concerned as they are about Palestinian children, but because I blame Hamas instead of Israel, they can't handle that.
I don't know how we move past this, but I think there could be a path to showing that we are the ones who are truly compassionate and they are just virtue signaling.
I’ve thought this too. Are Arab/Palestinian/Muslim issues less emphasized than Jewish/Israeli ones in Jewish spaces? Yeah. Of course Jewish spaces center Jews, that’s why they exist. But at least these concerns are present in a way neither group’s struggles are in “pro-Palestine” spaces. “Rah rah Israel bad!’ … Israel left Gaza 19 years ago after only controlling it for thirtysomething. It can only be blamed so much, and recolonizing it would not help.
To elaborate:
Gaza had functionally been its own independent country for decades, since Israel pulled out in 2005. Most nations don’t recognize it as a country but also, many nations still don’t recognize Israel as a country. But they run themselves. Therefore, Palestinian statehood will look a lot like what Gaza has been - hungry, violent, repressed, kleptocratic, etc - without some major redirection. And that is bad. The government’s constant wiretapping to know who everyone’s fucking is bad. The indoctrination into racist violence at every level, with UN schools leading the charge, is bad. The way the government steals humanitarian aid, SELLS it to starving people, kills people who use it, and refuses to cooperate with eg water infrastructure projects is bad. Gazans have to actually live under Hamas full time and it sucks. Look up “Whispered in Gaza.”
Why would anybody who is really pro-Palestinian support that shit? They overlook it all to hate Jews.
And a lot, a LOT, of people have been simpering about Hamas “ ‘ freedom fighters ‘ ‘“.

Why not? They self-governed. With terrorists, yes, but no outsider stormed in and told them who their leaders should be
