Time to take down shalom/ magen david patio flag?

Post Body

Hi folks, so I've had these patio flags up for three years now. I am a graduate student living in alone grad student housing on a UC campus, in an area with decent traffic flow. I love these flags and they bring me joy to see them (even though BLM as an organization doesn't support jews on any way, I still believe in the concelt... smh).

Two incidents have happened in the last 3 weeks. One the sunday after shabbat simchat torah, someone left a dog turd right next to that planter. I have never once, in the last 4.5 years I've been here, seen a dog turd on the sidewalk anywhere here, let alone by me. Is it a coincidence or intentional, no idea. Then, a saw someone wall by and stop dead in their tracks, turn around and stare at it (they didn't know I could see them from my couch), shake their head, walk away, and then turn around and come back even closer, staring at the magen david (Idk if they were trying to intimidate my flag or what).

So, my Ma isn't on social media but has started seeing news of all the antisemitism going around and is apparently not sleeping at night because she's worried people will target me because of these flags. And the thing is, it's not completely absurd to think that right now. I literally wake up everyday wondering if I'm going to find swastikas or other graffiti painted on my door...

Here is my question, is it time to start hiding our Magens? And if not, when will I know it is?

(PS- I have a tiny mezuzah on my front door, but it's quiet hard to see walking by and I know I am not ready to take that down...)

(PPS - I have a simplisafe DIY security system for whatever that might be worth, but cameras aren't allowed)

Anti blm isnā€™t anti black. BLM is an organization that opening hates Jews along with some other sketchy things theyā€™ve done

I agree. They hate you so why support them?

I live in Florida and wear my keepah and tzitzit out. I just started carrying again after 12 years.

Weā€™ve been pretty lucky in SFlorida so far but little instances here and there.

This shabbos there were kids outside the reformed shul in town yelling ā€œkill the Jewsā€

Iā€™d be much more worried as a college student. Be aware. Maybe take the signs down and hang your mezuzah on the inside door frame. Now is the time to hang the mezuzah and wear our jewelry but also be aware. College campuses right now are not the places for Jews unfortunately

Also one can support black people without supporting BLM. They hate usā€¦..

Jeeze what are they trying to hide? Seems kind of sketchy

You canā€™t have a camera inside facing out the window?

The so called ā€œsocial Justiceā€ groups of the left

From their own website ā€œBlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martinā€™s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacyā€¦ā€

I did just get a gun to carry. Iā€™m Florida we have constitutional carry so no license needed.

With that being said carry a little fixed blade knife. I keep it on my belt. Itā€™s under my shirt. Other than the fact it comes in handy all the time if anyone is attacking you itā€™s a quick draw. Plus even with the gun you arent shooting someone 30 yards away. You run.
