So how bad is owning a jeep. Seriously.

Post Body

I’m very close to picking up a 14 JKU with 50k on it that’s in truly excellent condition. Zero rust anywhere. Clearly garage kept. Motor is butter smooth. Clutch is excellent. Brand new tires and brakes. No leaks of any kind. Not a single scrape on the skid plates, probably never off roaded.

Friends of mine are telling me it will break/be unreliable etc. I’m no stranger to mainting cars that require more than average attention. I built a turbo Miata with 190k on it. I’m trading a 2014 focus st for it that I also built and maintained.

So honestly, how bad has your 6 speed jku been? Is it really just empty every pocket? Or is the unreliability overblown?

We owned a 2013 JKU sport with the 6-speed manual. I installed. 3.25” lift and then eventually 18” procomp wheels and 35” tires. We drove that Jeep back and forth between New Orleans and St. Louis at least twice a year for 4 years. Other than a couple axle seals and routine maintenance we never spent a dime. One of the better vehicles I’ve ever owned. For reference, I’m 36 and I have owned somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 vehicles over the years.
