I don't know about you guys, but I find Note to Self to be a song with so much replay value even though it's basically the credits of 2014 Forest Hills Drive where J. Cole is just going through a bunch of Thank Yous. It's not a super lyrical song with a bunch of metaphors or double entendres, but what I love about it is how sincere it is. It makes me think about all of the people in my life who have supported me along the way and it reminds me how much of an impact they've had on my journey. It inspires a lot of self-reflection and makes me think about who I would thank if I had the chance to give a speech or something like that.
It may be 14 minutes long, but I don't feel like any of it was wasted. It's cool to listen to J. Cole loosen up and reflect on his journey and his success and shout out his friends. I wish we had more of that from all kinds of artists.
