Do you need to know modes to sound b bop?
Post Body
As the title says. I'm at the scales and arpeggio stage of my music learning right now. I'm mostly a swing and trad guy so I'm not too bothered to step beyond this much, but sometimes at jams, its super cool to hear people absolutely rip on old standards through so many notes and sounding outside in a great way. I was wondering do you basically have to know modes to sound like that or if you do fast swing solos with enough chromatic notes, you'll kinda get there?
