Hi all, my son and I are going on a road trip in mid-May and we will be driving for about 30 hours together. He has expressed an interest in Jazz. I have a collection of about 500 jazz records so I have played some stuff for him in the past. This time we will be limited to Spotify since we are driving but I could record some stuff to mp3 and play off my phone if it's not on Spotify.
Anyway I'd like to get recommendations of what to play for him. He wants to hear some Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis among other stuff that I like. I have to admit that I have not spent too much time with Bird and Coltrane so need to know what tunes to play him. I especially love live jazz and love the adlib sessions. Some of my favorite times was going to the Chicago Jazz fest then spending time at Jazz Showcase or other clubs afterwards, mostly back in the 80's. I'd like to give him some of that live Jazz experience with long jam sessions.
Any recommendations are welcome to recruit him to our ranks.
Thanks
I would start by discussing why he currently likes in jazz, and then find other artists who make similar music, that's more likely to foster an enthusiastic love of jazz because it's exposing him to things he is likely to enjoy.
