Making my first terrarium

Post Body

I'm gathering supplies to make my first terrarium but I'm not sure what material I should use for my bottom layer. Most guides I've seen use rocks but I was wondering if I would be able to use clay hydroballs or aquasoil instead because I like the look of them better.

And I'd like to use activated charcoal but I've read it shouldn't be used for some types of terrarium, would it be fine for a terrarium with moss and ferns? Thanks for your help
