Iāll try to keep it short. Iāve always wanted to live in Japan. I graduated in microbiology/pharmacology with honors, specializing in ischemic cardiomyopathies, got jlpt N2, got a job in pharma, they sponsored my visa and brought me here, first day on the job my (Australian female) supervisor and a coworker (Irish female) were being quite openly racist towards me (differential treatment, scolding, snide comments, racial slurs, the full package). After trying to give it a chance for 2 weeks, it only escalated, so I first requested an office/department transfer there are no other departments that suit my background, so transfer request was denied. I then tried using the other available avenues in the company for conflict resolution but got the typical āno evidenceā or ājust a misunderstandingā or āneed time to adjustā type excuses. My reaching out to HR likely aggravated the situation because the treatment further intensified. Iām usually a dedicated person with a genuine work ethic (school, sports, part-time, etc.), but my upbringing (which included moving schools/countries 11 times) had a variety of violent and non-violent racism and so I know this is a dead end. A bit of an extra motivation to leave is that the job itself turned out to be way more basic than advertised, and the company just underwent a budget cut which axed the 3 projects that were my motivation to apply in the first place.
I have two questions: 1. This is my first job after graduation, and the job that brought me to Japan, so I feel somewhat obligated to put it on my resume (屄ę“ęøć»č·åēµę“ęø) but Iāve read a lot of job hunting advice that says itās better to exclude jobs if you leave within the probation period (which I am). The job is really basic at the moment, so I donāt have much to write in terms of experience, growth or acquired skills. Any tips on whether to include it or how to phrase the description of it? If I leave it out, would recruitment question how I got my visa? 2. If Iām fortunate enough to get an interview and was asked, how would I explain leaving this job so soon? I donāt want to be the person who pulls the racism card, nor do I think JP recruiters would really understand that from a recipientās perspective. I know the mindset for many people here would likely have been to just stomach it. I also donāt want to bad mouth the company or give the impression of being weak willed or incapable of professional workplace relationships.
Iāve read a lot, including this sub, so Iāve got a good idea of the more general moving job advice (donāt quit before the next job is signed/confirmed, etc.). My concerns are more regarding the resume and interview, specifically.
Also, I specified Australian and Irish for context and to avoid any assumptions or misunderstandings of those involved, I have nothing against Australian or Irish people, and am aware there are good and not so good people in all countries, Japan included.
Thank You!
