Bond and Penny’s relationship is an odd mystery to me. There’s a strong connection between them that’s almost… wholesome. Affectionate yet restrained, something you don’t see with Bond (Connery’s at least.) And the way they talk makes me think they’re close friends outside of work. I can just picture them going shopping together or having a pleasant dinner at one of the other’s flats.

Now let’s be mature about this, romance between them would be questionable. Bond’s always going away to complete missions and he’s seducing women while he does it (whether for the mission or self interest.) Anyone looking for a regular relationship would find it disloyal. Now oddly enough it doesn’t leave Penny bitter, if anything she finds it entertaining and likes to tease Bond about it. You’d think that says it all— they have a close, comfortable and playful friendship. So then… what were those tears at Bond and Tracy’s wedding?

It’s all a strange mystery to me. Friends? Best friends? A twisted case of a Cuckquean and her prince? I’ve never been more conflicted.
