I’m here to understand if any one has come across any literature related to Jainism that talks about homosexuality.
I’ve been quite religious growing up, learnt about Jainism, our texts, sutras, etc. I feel extremely grateful to have been born into this though I’m not as actively religious in terms of doing pooja everyday or strictly following a Jain diet as I used to be, but I try my best.
Over the last couple of years I realised I’m not heterosexual/ straight. Being someone who greatly respects the religion and comes from a religious family, I tried looking up if there’s any mention of homosexuality in religious texts to seek some understanding and validation. I didn’t find anything concrete. However, I came across the thought that since the religion discourages attachment and passionate physical relationships, it is sinful, which is the case with any other heterosexual relationship in sansaar. Which means the orientation does not matter as heterosexual acts are equally sinful.
As someone who wishes to continue following my religion as much as possible and improve in my spiritual journey, I hope I find a Jain partner.
I will not accept any homophobia in the comments and will report those users. For those who are on the fence about this, know that my orientation is not in my control. I always strive to say the truth, I don’t want to ruin someone else’s life by marrying a man, nor do I want to live a life of lies myself. There’s no hinsa, chori or harm I’m doing to others by loving the person of my choice, and I have the right to follow the religion of my choice.
