Jaguar fob/car being funky

Hi,

My Jaguar fob started playing up the other day - it stopped locking/unlocking the car, made no noise etc. Basically it does nothing other than allow the car to be started when sitting in it.

I assumed it was a dead battery and changed.

However, not only is it the same - the car won't recognise it and so I have to hold it against the steering wheel stem to 'reprogram' it every time I want to start the car.

Does anyone have an idea of what the issue might be? It's either the fob, or the car itself.
