Our boy turned 1 a few weeks ago and we took him to the aquarium but will be throwing a little party for him over the weekend. We’ve already had the decorations, theme, outfit and everything picked out. Yesterday DH went to her house and and she told him that she ordered him decorations, an outfit and a cake. She wants us to go to her house afterwards to celebrate there, too. DH thinks this is just her being an excited grandma but I think it’s controlling. Like how does she think it’s ok to buy all these things BEFORE even asking if we’re ok with it? Why would we want to go to her house for a party after we just had one at ours? But of course he told her we would be going there too and I’m sorry but that’s not going to happen.

I don’t understand her need to want to control every aspect of our child’s life but it’s infuriating. Especially when DH can’t see through her. I tell him she’s controlling and that it’s not normal to plan a party without even asking the parents and I feel like he just thinks I’m a bitch and doesn’t understand why I don’t think MIL is genuinely a nice person.
