Thoughts on Ni No Kuni?

Been thinking about buying it on sale, but every time I look at it it just seems so childish. I know Japan isn't afraid to mix their childish looks with more mature storylines but I'm still skeptical. What other JRPG's would it be comparable to? I've played too many to list all of them, but I'm a big fan of stuff like the Tales series and FF. Should I give it a shot?
