I beat Perfect Chronology when it came out a few years ago and thought it was fine, but nothing that special and tbh I didn't fully understand all the praise at the time.
I thought the story was fine enough but I just couldnt really get into it, and a large part of that was that I just didnt really like the dub (not a dub person 99% of the time, only exception is Xenoblade and DQ lol). Looking back, I feel like my enjoyment of the game was overall hampered by it. Now a few years later, now that I've discovered the magic of undub patches I decided to give it another go and I'm shocked by how much more I'm enjoying it this time around.
The Japanese voice acting helps a lot for sure (love Katsuyuki Konishi as Stocke, it's so refreshing to see such a serious stern protagonist in a jrpg lol) but I'm also just enjoying the gameplay as a whole much more this time. Maybe it helps that I've been playing a ton of trails recently, and the battle system kinda reminds me of it. Also I dont think I was in the right mindset to play a Sprite based game when I played it a few years back so playing all those trails games back to back really helped me appreciate Sprite based games a lot more haha. And as always, the Shimomura OST is great (though I still do think the ost has a problem of being too short so you hear a LOT of tracks getting reused)
But overall the game is great and I reccomend everyone on this sub to give it a try if you havent already!!
