Technical Question: What Makes JID’s Flow So Good?
Post Body

I’ve thought of some stuff, I’d like to see what you guys think. - melody. Compare his verses on his features with other artist and his voice just sounds more free, more playful, more unique, less robotic, less dull, and less suppressed. He’s really good at acting out his lyrics with emotions and melody in them. It’s never like he’s reading the lyrics like he’s reading a newspaper. It’s like his performing them. It feels alive. - good boom bap rapper skillset. This is all the technical stuff so: internal rhyming, multi syllable rhyming, extended breath control beyond one line, mid line breath pockets, packing the bars with as many syllables as possible, fast rapping - good trap rapper skillset. Despite being more of a lyrical rapper, not once on a trap song do I feel like JID is getting out energied (is that a word 😭) he’s just got that swagger in him. He’s not dusty like a normal boombap rapper. They’re so tense but JID is like an acrobat the way he jumps around and glides on the beat. Very much like a trap rapper uses melody but JID combines it with rhythm to give us best of both worlds and I think he’s the first rapper to unlock this to this level.
