Dammit, I meant what, not why.
The forge thingy being the Soul Forge (SF) and it should have been Significance but Will just did a giveaway of the first 5 books, so I thought it polite not to put any potential spoilers in the subject line.
Also, I got tired of typing Significance on mobile, so it changes to just S at some point. Anyway...
In another post, someone mentioned the Abidan artifacts scattered across Cradle.
Could the SF's fires burn them, or would they be too tough?
Like maybe a used up dead object?
Or what about Shen's handy little Abidan box?
Moving on to other items of potential Significance...
What about the Arelius Handy Box (AHB)?
Does the fact that it has craftsmanship that approaches the quality of an Abidan object lend any Significance?
What about the fact that it carried Subject One's hand for at least the better part of a decade (but probably hundreds of years)?
Hey! What about the hand that was in the AHB?
Will that burn? Will it have Significance? Or do only made things give off S?
(I doubt that, if there are places of S, like a battle field where a Monarch died, then S is not limited to manufactured items.)
OTOH, I think the SF has potential for an unintended use, destroying things.
If you have a magical ring, sentient grimoire, ancient evil artifact that resists all normal means of destruction, Lindon's your guy.
He'll destroy it right in front of your eyes for free.
Because the potential S-value will be worth it.
Rando: Apologies, honoured Sage, what do you get out of this?
Lindon: I get the satisfaction of helping my fellow Sacred Artists.
Dross: And it keeps the Forge fires burning.
