Certain people keep speculating that Subject One and Ozzy are somehow related.

But you're all clearly crackpots and really bad at this, so I'm going to share my personal brilliance with you by laying out my theory.
This level of theory-crafting, and the sharing of it, is not something I normally allow myself. It always feels like a spoiler when I'm right.
But you've all been so absolutely despairingly awful at it, that I have to finally say something.
So here goes:

Ozzy, founder of House Arelius, did not start life as a pitiful squishy little human.
Ozzy was a glorious sacred spider, of unusual size.
During the Lord levels of advancement he took a puny gross human form to both handicap his greatness (he did everything so well that he was bored), and to better interact with other sacred artists who tended to swoon and faint when confronted with Ozzy's natural beauty.

Ozzy reached Monarch and the Arelius bloodline ability is a combination of Ozzy's sacred beast heritage and his partigular gifts.
Spiders have many eyes. Humans may think that doesn't mean much due to the limitations of spider eyes, but when one has that many eyes and Copper sight and spiritual perception, and the ability to cast and weave wide webs of detection using the thinest of strands of real web and madra - all advanced to the level of Monarch...

Ozzy also chose to mate with a human female.
Her intelligence and humour made up for her looking so... human.
And, frankly, among the species of sacred spiders Ozzy comes from, it is essential for the female to consume her mate immediately after mating. Ozzy felt that to be somewhat impractical in relation to his goals and responsibilities.

Ozzy's human descendants were born extraordinarily sensitive and perceptive, with an intuitive ability to cast fine threads of madra out around them to extend those senses and perception in a fine invisible web.

Later, Ozzy led research into what became known as Hunger madra and bindings.

Something happened, and he died in the labyrinth. Instead of remaining dead, he joined the ranks of the Abidan. He was too good a prospect to be allowed to die there and then.

Whether or not Ozzy expected and counted upon this is unknown. Most Cradlites have next to no information on his death and ascendance.

It is, however, very odd that he somehow died in a way that left his remnant contaminated by Hunger, and safely imprisoned in a manner that led to certain other sacred beasts being contaminated by Hunger and expelled from the Labyrinth, never able to return.
It is unknkwn how many of those beasts were released into the world, but only four are known to exist today.

The multi-armed human shape of the remnant was due to his having once been a glorious sacred spider.
The grasping hands and hungry maw depicted on the Nethergate are symbolic of the contamination by the Hunger.

Other researchers did try to follow up with experiments into Hunger, and Ozzy's remnant became known as... wait for it... Subject One.

Following in the tradition of this sub's theory crafters, I have not felt it necessary to provide any substantive support for this theory beyond the puzzle pieces above. More importantly, there is no evidence available (without a WoW), against my theory.
