My wife's family every years makes something that they call "goota leels" (pronounced like it's spelled). I have no idea what it is. To me it's not much different than the bowties pastry. But a little more dense and no apparent shape to them. Basically fried dough. They aren't that good. I've asked multiple people what they are really supposed to be but no one seems to know. Her family doesn't know either, they just make them. I'm 100 percent certain that the pronunciation is wrong, probably not even close. Any idea what this is?
