Ideas for first city

I've got my MC through first contact with the new world and the first village, now I'm onto the first city but I'm drawing blanks on how to procede. I'm thinking about having them sell items to a merchant they meet at the guild hall as well as doing some quests with the guild but other than that I don't really have many ideas on how to proceed with that.
Any ideas or suggestions?
