Honestly this/interdiction seems like a pretty good way of having good old shooty bang bang combined arms mil-fi without breaking versimilitude or running into too many plotholes or moral quandaries.
The "advanced" aliens are neither blowing us up with an RKV, already settled the place nor just going CTRL ALT DEL in another way because they're fundamentally a mining equipment & perimeter guarding ecosystem whose actual creators are dead/sleeping/far away and uninvolved.
Also gives you a handy justification for why the good old "blow up the core to win" flaw exists -- It was placed there precisely to serve as a means to disable an ecosystem getting dangerous to its creators.
