How big of a concern are air leaks in Space Habs?
Post Body

The first rule of space is that everything leaks. Its inescapable. Seems pretty trivial but on larger, aging habs it seems plausible that you’d have dozens or hundreds of leaks at any given time, which sounds like a maintenance nightmare. And finding the exact origin of leaks can be challenging. You could top off the air pressure by importing it every time it decreases but I am unsure of the long term implications of that if any.

Comments

It's kind of like electrical fires on regular space or aircraft.

"Huge, but it's also something we understand enough to account for".

One approach I don't see enough: Resins.

Create cells in the wall of your hab.

Once the wall is breached, the resin hardens due to air contact/no longer being pressurized. The breached cells no/w (longer) conduct electricity and you can see where the leak happened.

If you're unable to replace the damaged section you take an angle grinder to the hardened resin protuberance until it's flush with the wall again then apply a layer of foundation and it's as good as new.

All very simple low tech solutions.
