LEO rail gun launch system

Post Body

I've done a short bit of research on rail guns for launching spacecraft and supplies into orbit. I know that the intense air friction created would destroy any material a payload could be made out of, thus making the idea unfeasible. However, what if the rail gun doesn't do all the work and the craft is still assisted conventionally with engines to make orbit? Would that change anything? Would it be any more feasible than a regular rocket?

Comments

It's not only feasible but in fact preferable.
