ITT: Things an advanced race under known or probable science may gift to a lesser-evolved species in order to help them along the way. Ideally things not likely to cause major harm or require some massive infrastructure or coordination, so precedence should be given to immaterial goods and things that aren't likely to require a - or lead to an - uprooting of established logistics. Note that this is NOT a thread meant to cynically try and dig for means to weaponize seemingly innocuous advances. For the sake of argument we will furthermore assume a world existing at the same state as ours 5 years ago.
For my first suggestion: An 'ideal' set of compression algorithms. Decoding our signals will lead to an understanding of how we perceive natural and transmit artificial signals, as well as how we store them. As such, sending us a full documentation on how to make a picture, sound file or movie suddenly take up a quarter of the space would gradually speed up the exchange of ideas and innovation globally as every piece of physical hardware we have would get used more and more efficiently rather quickly assuming they ship the required core scripts along with it too.
Feel free to add your own ideas or tell me why I'm wrong.
