Post Body

Wind tugged at the many assembled banners at the tourney grounds, where a massive grandstand had been erected alongside a pair of lists and a field designated for the melee. As midday neared, noblemen and smallfolk alike made for the grounds. Smallfolk lined the rails on the far end, kept at a decent distance from their nobleborn counterparts.

As it tended to be, a Stormlander tourney was a raucous affair. Men and women alike cheered and jeered this knight or that one as they rode at the lists. Men cheered as the young Knight of the Dark held his own against Ser Maric Wendwater, though eventually he ended up in the dirt and would be revealed as Balon Swann, a boy of ten. The crowd gasped as Ser Stannis Estermont’s tourney lance crushed in Ser Jon Dondarrion’s breastplate, sending the knight of Blackhaven to the medical tent to be tended to. There was silence after Ser Garrison Trant’s lance exploded, sending a splinter hurling into Ser Beric Toyne’s visor-- a gout of blood ran down his breastplate as knights of the Rainwood hurried him off the field. The splinter injured his eye, and Ser Beric joined Ser Jon in the medical tent. Ser Garrison Trant won the purse of 10,000 gold stags, a princely sum.

Ser Garrison Trant unhorsed Ser Beric Toyne to win the joust.

Ser Beric Toyne defeated Ser Humfrey Cafferen, Ser Lyonel Connington, and Ser Stannis Estermont.

Ser Beric Toyne was maimed in the eye.

Ser Jon Dondarrion was maimed in the chest.

While Ser Beric’s men spirited him away, sharp-eyed smallfolk noted the King leaving his Queen in the stands and vanished, only to return in his battle armor with his new warhammer in hand. The King would line up against several dozen of his peers in the grand melee. Tenacity colored the performance of the Estermonts in the melee, a pleasant surprise. Both Ser Stannis and Lord Allard Estermont would challenge the King. Ser Stannis would be swept with little effort, but the Lord-Admiral of the Stormlands and his King dueled for some time. Lord Allard landed several hits against the Storm King, but in the end the Storm King emerged victorious in the melee. The King would win the purse of 7,000 gold stags.

King Durran Durrandon defeated Ser Stannis Estermont, Ser Garrison Trant, and Lord Allard Estermont to win the melee.

Lord Jon Connington defeated Ser Edric Connington.

Ser Beric Toyne defeated Ser Matthos Errol and Ser Justin Morrigen.

The last event, occurring near to sunset as the wind finally died, was the archery competition. Eight archers fired ten arrows each, but none shot as true as Lord Bastion Dondarrion, who won the competition with ease. Lady Kyra Staedmon came in second, shooting well but not at the level of a master like Lord Dondarrion. Lord Dondarrion’s winner’s purse would contain 5,000 gold stags.

Lord Bastion Dondarrion won the archery competition handily.
