Broden pushed the door to his office open. Nathar and Cadder were there already, making smalltalk together about the situation.
"Right. I want something done about this sooner rather than later. We've got a bunch of noble looking men in Mollen clothing. What are we going to do about this?"
Cadder spoke first. "Let's not be hasty nephew, these are lives we're talking about. We need to be careful about this."
"I agree with your Uncle, my lord." Nathar Wheat's voice was smooth, almost delicate in it's own masculine sense. Still though it did nothing to stop Broden's sense of urgency.
"The Mollen's had armed men marching about the border where bandits are notorious, and they were in Enderly lands. That doesn't look much to me like it encourages diplomacy."
"Perhaps not Broden." Cadder took a seat and brought a skin of ale to his mouth. "But you have to try to reach out, you're suggesting war."
"I'm not suggesting war. I'm suggesting action. I refuse to sit here and wait."
"Sometimes it's wise to wait my lord."
"Aye, listen to men who've been in combat before. It's nothing to go prancing into."
Cadder had him there. He wasn't young anymore but he lacked the knowledge of combat. That didn't answer the need to do something. Broden knew he couldn't be stupid but he could not sit back like his father would have.
"Would it be wise to send a letter then, informing the Mollens of what happened and bring the bodies to them in an open field, at a predefined meeting place?"
"It would be worth a try my lord."
Cadder nodded his head, taking another long drink from his skin.
"Nathar, find me a place for the meeting then. Ride out tonight if you must. Cadder, you'll help me pen the letter. I'm going to go for a ride. I need to think."
Broden left his office without another word or any confirmation from his advisors. They would do what he asked. He was confident in them. In himself though, he was uncertain.
