Ser Terrence Payne approached the green, where the last tourney pavilions were being dismantled, just as the morning came to an end. The few banners that still flew the colors of the knights who had tilted reminded him of that day in King's Landing all those years ago. Payne still remembered the the look on King Vaemar Targaryen's face as he had bade him accept the knight's oath, and how Ser Lyn Corbray, the Lord Commander at the time, had given him his white cloak. That very same cloak was clasped to his shoulders now, still bearing the shine that he'd marveled at all those years ago.
He now wondered what this young lad would think when he met a knight of the Kingsguard. When he was ten years of age, Payne would have been amazed to speak with someone wearing the white, and may have been too anxious to even say a word. Truth be told, Ser Terrence was almost nervous himself, now that the prospect of having a squire was finally being addressed. No longer did he wish to stay the squire-less knight. He hoped to remedy that today, and stood waiting on Lord Roxton.
