Elerie Stone: Highborn bastard, 15. Elerie was born in Gulltown, the daughter of Ser Robar Royce and his mistress, who shortly after died in childbirth. Ser Robar, for the sake of the love he bore for the little girl's mother, left her in custody of a Septa in the city and would sometimes visit her only daughter, teach her about the Royces of Runestone and talk to her about her mother. In the meantime she grew up to be as beautiful as her mother had been, with black hair and rosey cheeks, but with the Royce's stone grey eyes. Once Andar, Robar's brother and lord, found out about her, not wanting to have a bastard at court, but unable to cast her to the wind either, he arranged for her to leave with the girl's aunt, Lady Jeyne who, unable to find a match, was leaving for Braavos. Elerie became the Lady's handmaiden in Braavos, a strange place she nonetheless came to love. Now Lady Jeyne is going back to her ancestral home with her companion and Elerie is coming back with her. Though beautiful, refined, learned and well-mannered she has a complex because of her being a bastard: she strives to find a place amongst the noble lords and ladies of the Vale who frown upon her and her base-born status. Her greatest dream, though she knows it will hardly ever come to reality, is to marry a knight and live happily ever after, loved and respected by the people of the Vale.
