Spark Aligners - what are the stages and the refinements?

So I just had my first appointment and I'm in course to get the Spark aligners, and I'm waiting for the second one (I'll do the X-Ray, etc).

As always, it's not known how much time will take, only that, I'm going to use 4 aligners for month.

Now the question is, I just noticed in my invoice something called "Spark 20". According to the Spark website, this means I have 20 stages and 2 refinements.

What exactly are the stages and the refinements? Are they saying that I'm going to have aligners for 20 weeks (5 months), and then I'll have the refinements, whatever that is? And if I that doesn't go well, I probably have to pay extra?
