SUCCESS! So here's what it took.
* Put the SIM in the G91s
* Settings --> Mobile network --> Scroll down ---> Advanced Settings
* Turn off Automatically select network
; this will bring up "Choose network" screen and it'll take 2 or 3 minutes for it to scan for networks.
* When the scanning is done, most likely the top one will be "AT&T". Select the top one. In a few seconds it should say "Connected".
* Now go back to the previous screen and select "Access Point Names"
This part is tricky. It will **APPEAR** that you cannot edit the APN settings; it turns out that changing certain values is what will cause everything to be rejected. In my case, trying to change the MNC from 280 to 410 is what kept causing the phone to reject my attempt
Look at this website's android settings: https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1062162
Make all the values match but don't touch the MNC value even if it's wrong. The most important thing to change is the "APN type". Make sure it's "default, mms, supl, hipri". In particular the att-support person told me the value "xcap" that was there before is for tablets and that might be why voice-call wasn't working.
Tap the three dots at the top-right and select "save"
Say "OK" to the warning about changing the settings.
Wait 10 seconds then make sure the radio-button for these APN settings is selected.
That's it! Turn off WiFi and try to use the internet, it'll work, send an SMS to someone, it'll work, place a voice call to someone it'll work but it might be
*slightly*
on the quiet side IMHO but it's good enough for me.ALSO THE ABOVE SETTINGS WORK ON 5G capable BLU F91 as well!!!!! I've decided to just keep using this phone because it sounds slightly better and on occasion it does connect at 5G when I'm in a 5G area.

So the at&t support directed me to change the Access Point Settings with this article:
But, for some reason any attempts to edit&save these settings on my G91S are rejected; the settings won't stay. I'm experimenting with this and the F91-5G to see if I can get either of them to take the settings. In particular, in my "APN type" comma-delimited list the G91s has "xcap" as one of the values and the att-support person told me that's typically for tablets and might be the reason voice-calls aren't working; that I need to remove it somehow. Also the MNC value is 280 while the above website says 410 for Android devices. So I'm looking around to see how to make permanent changes to these settings.

In America, if you call them at 800-331-0500
they can check if your number has a block and then remove it. If your SIM was previously in a (soon-to-be)unsupported phone their system sometimes puts a block on one, or more, of three features: SMS, voice-call, data/internet. They saw blocks on data & voice so they removed them. SMS & mobile-data now work but voice calls do not. Still working on it. Once I get all this straigtened out on the G91S I'm going to put the SIM in the F91-5G.

So since I have a bit of extra money and don't mind a bit of tech-tinkering I decided to buy two phones; BLU G91s and the 5G capable BLU F91. I also went to the at&t store to get a brand new SIM card because my previous card was really old. At the moment, NEITHER of these two phones are working! They both allow SMS text send/receive but the mobile-data/internet connection isn't working. I'm not sure what's going on here. I also I have a work phone, Pixel 6 pro and even THAT phone isn't working! But in a different way; Pixel 6 pro I can make phone calls but data doesn't work! This whole at&t network thing is crazy. I have patience though because I also have a Verizon SIM and that has working internet & SMS; honestly I can live with that long term. Eventually I do need to fix this phone-number-voice call thing because there are rare times I need the phone to actually work as a traditional old-fashion phone. I'm going to call at&t customer support about this.

So my BLU G90 Pro just stopped working on at&t network. This actually happened a few months ago but contacting at&t-live-chat-support they were able to fix it. Today, they were not able to fix it and now doing some research, I see BLU is aware of the issues and some things just aren't gonna work anymore.
I'm trying to gather as much info as I can before buying a new phone.
I see I could get the BLU G91S that is BLU put on their list as a supported phone but I'd really like to get the G91max or even the F91 because I'm *assuming*
any phone that's newer than the phones listed by BLU as supported should also work; but I'm seeing info online that's making me think that it's a *whitelist*
situation and that *ONLY*
the phones at&t and BLU have worked together to certify will work on at&t's network. But, I also see stuff like this that makes me think if I put effort into tinkering with the phone I should be able to get the newer model BLUs working... but I dunno.
So, I'm looking to get some input from y'all. Should I just stick specifically to what is listed as supported or does anyone have any experience with newer phones working?
