Here's a bit of my background: I came from the Philippines and graduated there. I also spent four years teaching high school Math in the Philippines. Currently, I'm an international teacher at an IB school in the US, and this upcoming academic year will be my second year here.
While I am grateful for the opportunity, I find myself facing a few challenges. My salary is $42,000 USD, and the cost of living here is quite high, even though I am single. Additionally, I am finding it challenging to manage the behaviors of the students here.
I know that many members of this Reddit community are from the US, Canada, and the UK, and one of your advantages is being native English speakers. While I am fluent in English, I am not a native speaker.
I'm particularly interested in hearing from other international teachers who are not native English speakers. Do you have experience teaching in international schools in places like Qatar, New Zealand, or the UK? How receptive are these schools to hiring international teachers who are fluent in English but not native speakers?
You can also share anything/advice to me. Thank you
