I started my teaching career in Thailand via the TESOL route for 3 years. I then went back to my home country (USA) and acquired a masters degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I will now be entering my 8th year as a history teacher in New York City but would love to return to Thailand for the 2024-25 school year.
I've been doing some research over the past couple of weeks and two things make me a bit worried -
- History teachers are "a dime a dozen" and the market for them is oversaturated?
- A lot of schools seem to use the IB framework, something I have never taught before, I wonder how big a deal this would be to a potential employer and if its worth paying to get certified?
Finally, just looking to see what the prospects are for someone with my type of profile as well as any tips people have to increase my chances at landing a decent job in Thailand.
